ASEIC Secretary General Lee Seung-chan said in his opening remarks, “Through the ASEAN-Korea SDGs Business Competition, startups and small and medium-sized enterprises in Korea and ASEAN will share their respective business models to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further advance into the global market. “I hope that an opportunity will be provided,” he said.
The event was preceded by a welcoming address by Arif Rahman Hakim, Indonesian Deputy Minister of SMEs and Cooperatives (KUKM), a certificate of appreciation in the name of the KUKM Minister to Samchully Networks as a representative of the sponsor, and a congratulatory address by Michael Siegner, head of the Vietnam office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation. Pitching and inquiries were conducted by 10 companies in the presence of 8 internal and external professional judges, and on-site networking was conducted between participating companies and 11 venture investment companies, including AC Ventures, BNI Ventures, and DS/X Ventures.
At this Demo Day, first place was awarded to PLANA (PT. Peduli Alam Nusantara), an Indonesian company that recycled waste plastic into building materials. A prize of $5,000 was awarded. Second place was awarded to LabSD, a Korean eye health service venture, with a prize of $3,000, and finally, Entomal Biotch, a Malaysian company that provides a subscription service for waste management, was awarded a third place prize of $1,000.
